US Secretary of Defence Robert Gates arrived to Budapest on Wednesday

He was greeted at Ferihegy Airport by Hungarian Defence Minister Imre Szekeres.

Mr. Gates have come to the Hungarian capital to attend the 2-day meetings of the Defence Ministers of NATO member states. Mr. Gates and Mr. Szekeres briefly discussed the NATO operations in Afghanistan with special regards to the role of Hungary. Mr. Gates said it wasn’t necessary to send more Hungarian troops to Afghanistan, but he suggested that Hungarian helicopter-pilots may be trained by American officers. Hungary’s is the third largest contingent in Afghanistan. The Afghan Defence Minister will also attend the meetings. He is expected to arrive to Budapest on Thursday morning.
