Skanzen - folk museum
The purpose of the establishment of the Open-Air Folk Museum of
Szentendre to introduce the folk architecture, interior furnishing,
farming and lifestyle of the Hungarian speech area through original
relocated buildings, authentic artifacts, shaped to the old residential
forms, in the period between the middle 18th century to the first half
of the 20th century.
The residential houses and the farming buildings are representing each
land’s historical residential houses and typical outbuildings. The
museum is divided according to 7 lands. One of the most interesting
things to see is the theme workshops that can be visited during their
operation, such as the blacksmith’s, bakery, the shoemaker’s shop.
The Open-Air Folk Museum is the collection of museum-piece folk art
artifacts. Mainly the typical objects - series - of the everyday life
are in the collection. The number of the objects in the inventory is
nearly 60.000 pieces. A significant amount of the pieces of the museum
– at least 26.000 pieces – can be seen in our permanent exhibitions.
The Skanzen is one of the best-known and favorite museums of Hungary,
where the public can simultaneously learn and entertained. In a good
atmosphere it can visualize the past, the tradition, and the legacy in
unity with the future.
